What
"cheese" is and the threat it poses for our kids
"Cheese"
is the street name for a highly dangerous form of heroin that
started to become common in and around schools in 2005. The Today
Foundation encourages you to learn more about this drug and to
help us prevent it from spreading further.
"Cheese":
-
is a combination of Tylenol PM (or its generic equivalent) and
black-tar heroin
- a
tan-colored powder whose grain size and hue are inconsistent
- is
taken by inhaling the powder into the nose through a tube
- causes
euphoria, disorientation, lethargy, sleepiness and hunger
Also,
it:
- has
the same effect as if heroin had been injected with a needle
- quickly
causes the user to become addictive
- can
cause long-term liver damage and/or liver failure
- can
cause respiratory arrest and death, especially if taken with
alcohol
